REMOVING
Before starting work, please consult:
-- chapter 2, "BACKGROUND INFORMATION" ;
-- chapter 3, "TECHNICAL DATA".
If only the big end bearings have to be inspected or replaced, it is not necessary to remove
the piston and connecting rod.
1. Remove the cylinder head, see section
18B.
2. Remove the carbon build--up from the
liner edge. Do not use a sharp object
for this purpose.
3. Remove the connecting rod cap. See
section 16B.
4. Fixing the piston and connecting rod:
4. 1. Turn the piston to Top Dead
Centre.
4. 2. Place two holding plugs, item 8,
into two diagonally opposite bolt
holes in the con rod foot to
prevent the upper bearing half
shell from falling.
4. 3. Fit the support strip B, to the
cylinder block using the bolts.
4. 4. Place the holder G, coupled to
the lever E, by means of the pin
D, in the con rod foot.
4. 5. Using the lever, force the piston
and con rod upwards so that the upper piston ring comes to rest on the cylinder
liner edge.
4. 6. Remove the holder and lever assembly, pull the holding plugs out of the
connecting rod foot, and remove the upper bearing shell.
5. Removing the piston and connecting rod:
5. 1. Remove the carbon of the piston top side.
5. 2. Fit the hoisting ring, item A.
The eye bolt faces must be level with the top of the piston.
5. 3. Hoist the piston and con rod assembly out of the cylinder liner.
5. 4. Protect the crankpin.
