4. Checking
pre- -lifting

FUEL SYSTEM
5D INSPECTIONS, MOMENT OF INJECTION
After fitting a new or reconditioned high pressure fuel pump, the pre lifting has to be
checked and/or adjusted. Proceed as follows:
4. 1. Close the fuel supply to the
engine.
4. 2. Remove the
cover from the housing.
4. 3. Turn the corresponding
fuel cam on its base circle.
4. 4. Remove the
pressure valve and fit "the
dummy.
4. 5. Place a 3.6 mm adjusting
plate between the cam
follower and the base circle
of the fuel cam.
4. 6. Slacken the locking nut of
the fuel pump adjusting
bolt.
4. 7. Bring the fuel control rod of
the fuel pump
maximum position.
4. 8. Open the fuel supply to the
engine.
4. 9. Turn the adjusting bolt
anti--clockwise until fuel
flows out of the "dummy".
Slowly turn the adjusting
bolt clockwise until fuel flow
out of the "dummy" stops.
Next secure the bolt in
position by means of the
locking nut.
4. 10.Close the fuel supply and withdraw tool B and C.
Replace the constant pressure valve.
4. 11. Re--check the setting of the fuel timing, from point 3.6 and further.
4. 12.If the setting is outside the permitted tolerance the fuel cam position must be
corrected.
