VERIFICATION
Check that all bolts have been tightened to the proper torque by means of a torque
spanner (do not slacken the bolts when checking). The correct torques are specified
by the sub--supplier.
Check the elements for :
--
Swelling (through chemical attack by fuel, lube oil and / or detergents) ;
--
Rupture ;
--
Damage.
Renew elements showing any of the above defects.
The start--up record specifies the distances between shims and (common) bedplate.
These distances serve as reference values. Measure the actual distances and enter
them on a record of the type illustrated. Comparison with the reference values will then
show up any variation in height that may have occurred. In evaluating such height
variations, use must be made of the following guide-lines.
--
The difference in comparison between juxtaposed elements on one side (i.e.
camshaft side or exhaust side) may not exceed 1 mm.
--
The compression of a given element on one side may vary plus or minus 1 mm
from the average compression on that side.
Note :
If the set--up of the engine is altered, the crankshaft deflection, the alignment and
parallelism must be checked and if necassary, readjusted. Faulty alignment will lead
to excessive engine vibration. To prevent misalignment it is also advisable to inspect
the flexible elements visually from time to time.
