6‐lobe wrench (torx)
A wrench with a star‐shaped head that
fits the socket of a 6‐lobe fastener. The
Segway PT uses 6‐lobe fasteners in
places, such as the chassis, that should
be accessed only by a Certified Service
Technician.
balance sensor assembly (BSA)
The central monitoring unit, found in
the center of the platform, which
accounts for variable terrain and
communicates with the controller
boards and the motors to balance the
Segway PT.
console electronics
See user interface console (UIC).
control unit (CU) boards
The two integrated circuit boards
located in the platform. The CU board in
the front is often referred to as the "A"
board, and the board in the rear as the
"B" board (arrows on the chassis point
to the front of the unit).
display
Circular window on info key that shows
machine conditions through LCD
segments and LED colored lights.
environmental seal
A watertight seal necessary to prevent
damage to the Segway PT.
EMI
Electromagnetic interference.
ESD
See Electrostatic discharge.
Electrostatic discharge
The rapid discharge of accumulated
electrical charge. To prevent damage to
the Segway PT, a Certified Service
Technician should always stand on a
static mat or wear a grounding heel or
wrist strap while working on electrical
elements of the Segway PT.

flange
Triangular plate with three wheel mounting
studs affixed to the end of the gearbox output
shaft.
harness
A group of cables bound together to form one
assembly, typically with connectors that plug or
snap into place.
hex wrench
A hexagonal wrench that fits the socket of a hex
fastener.
IEC (International Electrotechnical
Commission) connector
This is the location where the Segway PT is
plugged in to charge (charge port).
LeanSteer frame
Comprises all of components in the steering
assembly (upper and lower frame, handlebars,
height adjustment knob, wedges) that attach to
pivot base.
N‐m (Newton‐meter)
The measurement unit for torquing nuts, bolts,
and screws.
roll pins
The two small cylindrical pegs located on the
gearbox that fit into holes on the chassis and
align the gearbox on the chassis.
RTV silicone sealant
A silicone sealant that vulcanizes at room
temperature, and is used in some models in
place of a gasket to seal the gearbox to the
Segway PT chassis.
