Routing without MDIO terminal rail
An external equipment (e.g. temperature sensor) can also be connected directly to the
MDI/MDO interface of the subrack. In that case the common pin (= pin 5) has to be
connected to a voltage in the range of –40 V ... –72 V on the customer side.

Shielded MDI/MDO cable → all pins should be connected to the
MDIO terminal rail (one-by-one). The cable should be shortened to
the appropriate length.
Preferred earth connection point for the braid of the MDI/MDO cable.
One of the U
(–48 V) connection points (5, 6, 7 or 8) should be
alm
connected to pin 5 of the MDIO terminal rail.
Cable to external equipment (e.g. temperature sensor). The same
shielded cable must be used as is used between the subrack (CI-CTL)
and the MDIO terminal rail.
