Looseness in Steering Column
Step
Did you review the Steering Wheel and Column Description

and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?
Verify that the steering column is loose.

Is the steering column loose?
Inspect the steering column mounting brackets for looseness.

Are the steering column mounting brackets loose?
Verify that the steering column bracket capsule is not sheared.

Is the steering column bracket capsule sheared?
Inspect the intermediate shaft for worn joints or looseness.

Is the intermediate joint worn or loose?

Refer to "Fastener Notice: ".

Tighten the mounting bolts to specifications. Refer to
"Fastener Tightening Specifications - Steering Wheel and
Column - Tilt".
Did you complete the repair?
Replace the steering column assembly. Refer to "Steering

Did you complete the replacement?
Tighten or replace the intermediate shaft as needed. Refer

to"Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement".
Did you complete the repair?
Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?
Ignition Key Cannot Be Removed from the Ignition Lock Cylinder

Verify the key cannot be removed from the ignition lock

cylinder.
Is the key stuck in the lock cylinder?

Is the vehicle equipped with a manual transmission?
Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.

Can the key be turned to the OFF position and be removed?
Verify the adjustment of the automatic transmission shift cable.

Refer to "Shift Control Cable Adjustment: ".
Can the key be turned to the OFF position?
Inspect for a faulty lock cylinder.

Is the lock cylinder damaged?
Inspect the ignition lock cylinder case.

Is the case worn, damaged or loose?
Replace the ignition lock cylinder. Refer to "Ignition Lock
