Power Delivery Guidelines

The following guidelines are recommended for optimal EP80579 power delivery. The
main focus of these guidelines is to minimize power noise and signal integrity quality.
The guidelines are not intended to replace thorough system validation of products.
6.5.1
IA-32 core Power (VCC_CPU)
This supply provides the voltage for the IA-32 core. The voltage plane ranges from
1.0V - 1.3V based on the core frequency. The Development Board uses a Pulse Width
Modulator (PWM) controller-based switching voltage regulator design to provide the IA-
32 core power. The IA-32 core has its own independent voltage regulator and the
design is Voltage Regulator-Down on the motherboard (VRD). The VRD is powered by
+5V from the ATX power supply.
6.5.1.1
IA-32 core Bus Frequency and Power Select
The IA-32 core voltage is controlled by two signals (BSEL & V_SEL) from the EP80579.
The BSEL and V_SEL signals are driven by EP80579 to reflect the internal strapping of
the various EP80579 SKUs. The BSEL/V_SEL encodings should be interpreted to
generate the required CPU voltage as shown in
