6. Before you turn on the power switch to return the carriage unit to its home position on the right,
check the position of the horizontal encoder strip on the left.
• If the encoder strip is up on the bracket as shown at [A], pull it forward and down so that it is
in front of the bracket as shown at [B].
• If the machine is turned on with the strip positioned as shown at [A], the movement of the
carriage unit may scratch the surface of the encoder strip.
7. After you reassemble the machine, turn the machine on. The carriage will return to the right side
(home position), where the maintenance unit will cap the print heads automatically.
Uncapping the Print Heads and Moving the Carriage Unit Manually
1st Point: Suction Cap (K1)
• Rotating the hex socket at [A] raises and lowers suction cap [B] which covers the K1 print head.
• Normally the suction cap is up and engaged with the black print head of the carriage unit to keep it
from drying out.
• The suction cap must be lowered before the carriage can be moved away from the right side of the
machine.
