Installation and Configuration Considerations for
FASTPTCP
As of release ABP Feb 2004, WAITTIME is not repeated. If no response is
received, the job is suspended (not requeued) and will automatically continue
without any loss or duplication after SPOOLCOM DEV RETRY delay.
FASTCNFG DEVICE Attributes for Printers Connected Through
Microplex Servers
Microplex connected printers include the 552x/553x model printers with built-in print
servers and external Microplex M205/M206 print servers.
Microplex printers use a CONTYPE value of TCP/IP and a PROTOCOL value of
MICROPLEX. The minimal FASTCNFG DEVICE entry needed for Microplex connected
printers is as follows:
DEVICE device-name
CONTYPE
PROTOCOL
ADDRESS
PORT
Note that the CONTYPE attribute and, in some instances, the PORT attribute are not
required because CONTYPE = TCP/IP is the default connection type and the PORT
default value of 4400 is the default port for many Microplex devices. However, the
PORT attribute must match the setting of the printer or print server. Note, that
Compaq-branded Microplex printers (such as the 5525 and 5531printers, which use a
customized version of the Microplex M205 print server) require a PORT specification of
9100. In these instances, PORT =9100 must be specified.
Optional DEVICE Attributes for Printers Connected Through
Microplex Servers
In addition, the DEVICE entry can contain any of the optional attributes for all TCP/IP-
connected devices as described in
Devices
on page 3-18 and the following optional attribute:
ONLINEMODE = NO | YES | EOJ | BOTH
The Default is YES. If YES or BOTH is specified, the printer SNMP status will be
queried before printing; if the printer is not ready, the job will be requeued. If EOJ
or BOTH is specified, the printer SNMP status will be queried after all job data is
sent, but before TCP FIN (shutdown) is sent. If the printer is busy, the query is
repeated after a POLLINT delay. EOJ or BOTH helps synchronize FASTPTCP with
the printer to ensure that all data buffered within the printer is processed before
FASTPTCP marks the print job as complete to the Spooler.
Use BOTH if many short jobs are sent in a group. Also see WAITTIME.
