Spooler FONT Job Considerations for LPD
Connections
Most parameters required to communicate with an LPD can be specified in the
FASTCNFG configuration file. These parameters form the basis for all jobs sent to the
LPD device.
Additional information can be supplied in the form of SETMODE and CONTROLBUF
calls embedded in a suitable Spooler FONT job. This information can augment or
replace information present in the FASTCNFG file. The information supplied by the
FONT job only affects the current job.
The CONTROLBUF and SETMODE considerations for LPD devices are the same as
those described in
on page 2-27 with the following exceptions:

CONTROLBUF Operations

CONTROLBUF operations perform device-dependent I/O operations and have the
following syntax:
CONTROLBUF operation buffer
where the value of buffer varies based on the operation being performed.
lists the CONTROL BUF operation values that have special meanings for LPD devices:

Using the CONTROL, CONTROLBUF, and SETMODE Operations
Action
FASTPTCP uses the new queue name specified in the 02
Receive a printer job command. This name replaces any
QUEUENAME specified in the FASTCNFG file.
FASTPTCP uses the new banner class name specified in the C -
Class for banner page command. This name replaces any
BANNERCLASS specified in the FASTCNFG file.
FASTPTCP uses the new host name specified in the H - Host
name command. This name replaces any HOSTNAME specified in
the FASTCNFG file.
FASTPTCP uses the new job name specified in the J - Job
name for banner page command. This name replaces any
JOBNAME specified in the FASTCNFG file.
FASTPTCP uses the new user ID specified in the P - User
identification command. This user ID replaces any USERID
specified in the FASTCNFG file.
