Installation and Configuration Considerations for
FASTPTCP

Running the FASTKCUT Utility Program

FASTKCUT is a utility program distributed with the FASTPTCP software beginning with
the G06 and D48 RVUs. FASTKCUT is automatically installed by DSM/SCM in
$SYSTEM.SYSTEM when FASTPTCP is installed. FASTKCUT is used to generate
and perform online maintenance of a FASTKCON file; specifically FASTKCUT
performs the following functions:
Creates a FASTKCON file from one or more FASTCNFG files.
Deletes a device from the FASTKCON file.
Updates a FASTKCON file from a FASTCNFG file.
Creates a FASTCNFG file from a FASTKCON file.
Lists the contents of a FASTKCON file.
Note that FASTKCUT and FASTPTCP allow online maintenance of the FASTKCON file
with little or no impact to normal printer operation. Both FASTKCUT and FASTPTCP
open the file for shared access. Impact on printer operation, if any, is usually limited to
a single device, and in all cases is less than the impact would be if you were making
changes to the original FASTCNFG file.
To run the FASTKCUT utility enter the following command:
[RUN
$vol.subvol.]FASTKCUT [/OUT list/] command
where
$vol.subvol
specifies the volume and subvolume where the FASTKCUT utility is installed. The
default value is $SYSTEM.SYSTEM. Typically, $SYSTEM.SYSTEM is the correct
location and this specification can be omitted.
list
specifies a listing file other than your home terminal. If specified, the value must be
a line-oriented file, such as a terminal, printer, or Spooler. If omitted, the home
terminal is used.
command
specifies one of the FASTKCUT commands described below. If no command is
specified, FASTKCUT displays a help screen listing the command syntax for all the
supported FASTKCUT commands.
