Installation and Configuration Considerations for
FASTPTCP
After every block of print data, FASTPTCP also sends a status-request message, using
the response from the printer to ensure print integrity and to pace the flow of print data.
This end-to-end protocol eliminates the need for lower-level, flow-control methods such
as XON-XOFF or CTS. Because FASTPTCP does not terminate the TCP/IP socket
session until the last status response is returned from the printer, data is not lost at the
end of print jobs, nor is there a need for IAC DO TM exchanges.
FASTPTCP Installation and Configuration
Considerations
Unlike the other FASTP network print processes, the process for adding and
configuring a FASTPTCP print process can vary based on the release of FASTPTCP
being implemented.
For release version updates (RVUs) before G06 or D42, the FASTPTCP environment
consisted of the following components:
FASTPTCP print process.
FASTCNFG device configuration file.
SHAP, an offline formatting program that is used to format the new unstructured
shadow trace files.
For G06 and D48 RVUs and later, the FASTPTCP environment can also include the
following components:
FASTKCON, a key-sequenced configuration file.
FASTKCUT, a related utility program that is used to generate the FASTKCON file.
FASTKCON and FASTKCUT provide the following new features:
Allow faster printer startup because the FASTKCON configuration file is key-
sequenced. This enhancement is especially useful for large configurations.
Allow the FASTPTCP configuration to be updated online with no impact on running
FASTPTCP processes.
Provide FASTPTCP FASTCNFG configurations with a new DEFAULT keyword,
which simplifies configuration for devices sharing common settings.
FASTKCON and FASTKCUT are described in detail in

Beginning with the G06.10 and D48.02 RVUs, FASTPTCP supports the following new
