Installation and Configuration Considerations for
FASTPTCP
Normally, FASTPTCP spools jobs as rapidly as TCP/IP allows. The SLOWPACE
delay can be useful in network situations where slow printers that have small
buffers are not receiving all the data before the network is reset at device close.
SLOWPACE can prevent jobs from being lost, while allowing devices to be set as
EXCLUSIVE OFF in Spoolcom.
Note that the FASTCNFG device attribute SLOWPACE is no longer generally
recommended for AWAN server connections. SLOWPACE has been largely
superseded by NOTIMINGMARK=NO for AWAN and by SHUTDOWNTO.
FASTCNFG DEVICE Attributes for Dumb Serial Printers
Connected Through AWAN Servers or Other TELNET Terminal
Servers
This connection can be used for serial printers connected through AWAN servers or
other terminal servers supporting the TELNET protocol. These devices use a
CONTYPE value of TCP/IP-TELNET and a PROTOCOL value of NONE. The minimal
FASTCNFG DEVICE entry needed for serial printers connected through an AWAN
server or other TELNET terminal server is as follows:
DEVICE device-name
ADDRESS
PORT
PROTOCOL
CONTYPE
NOTIMINGMARK
where
ip-port
specifies the decimal port number assigned to the physical printer port. Although
this value can vary based on the terminal server, it is generally associated with a
specific asynchronous port on the terminal server. For AWAN devices, the port
number is specified as a value in the range 2001-2064, corresponding to
asynchronous ports 1-64.
NOTIMINGMARK = {YES|NO}
specifies whether FASTPTCP sends an IAC DO TM at session close. If
NOTIMINGMARK =YES, FASTPTCP does not send an IAC DO TM at the close of
session. If NOTIMINGMARK =NO, FASTPTCP attempts to ensure data delivery
before session close by sending an IAC DO TM. For AWAN terminal servers, set
NOTIMINGMARK to NO. Other terminal servers might handle IAC DO TM and the
TCP/IP socket-session connection differently. For a more detailed discussion of
this parameter and its effect on TELNET terminal servers, see
