Installation and Configuration Considerations for
FASTPTCP
Optional DEVICE Attributes for HP JetDirect Printers
In addition, the DEVICE entry can contain any of the optional attributes for all TCP/IP
connected devices as described in
Devices
on page 3-18 and the following optional attributes:
POLLINT = interval
specifies the time (in 10-millisecond units) that FASTPTCP should wait at end-of-
job to detect printing completion. The default value is 200 (2 seconds).
POLLNUM = poll-number
specifies the number of times FASTPTCP polls a device at end-of-job waiting for
the device to become idle. When POLLNUM is exhausted, FASTPTCP reports
error 100 to the Spooler supervisor. The default value is 30.
Note. POLLINT and POLLNUM determine the interval and number of times FASTPTCP
solicits device status. Under normal circumstances, you can rely on FASTPTCP default values
for controlling the communications session. However, because the SNMP agent can solicit
information from the printer, the POLLINT and POLLNUM parameters are available for
customizing communications behavior. You should use these attributes carefully, and only in
special network situations where congestion or other delays are known to be affecting
FASTPTCP performance, or where job length prevents end-of-job detection.
POLLTYPENAME = polltype-name
specifies the name of a POLLTYPE record to control interpretation of SNMP
responses. POLLTYPE records are defined using the POLLTYPE keyword as
described in
page 3-28. If POLLTYPENAME is not specified, the default POLLTYPE
HPJETDIRECT interpretation is performed.
SHUTDOWNTO = n
specifies the time (in 10 millisecond units) that FASTPTCP should wait for a
session shutdown to complete. Values from 100 (1 second) up to 8640000 (24
hours) are allowed; the default value is 100 (1 second). The default value is 60000
(600 seconds or 10 minutes).
SHUTDOWNTO allows time for certain HPJETDIRECT messages from the printer
at the end of a session. Sometimes these messages occur when PJL is used by
the print job, font job, or is set as a default at the printer. If the value of
SHUTDOWNTO is less than 100 (1 second), a minimum value of 100 (1 second) is
used. Only change the SHUTDOWNTO value when you are advised to do so by
support staff to resolve a specific problem.
Note. SHUTDOWNTO only applies to the G06.10 and D48.02 RVUs and later.
