Problem

Possible Cause
Diskette is damaged.
Diskette is incorrectly
inserted.
Software is corrupt.
Drive cable is not
properly connected.
The directory structure is
bad, or there is a problem
with a file.
Diskette is not formatted.
You are using the wrong
diskette type for the drive
type.
Cable is loose.
The system is trying to
start from a diskette that
is not bootable.
Possible Solution
Run your diskette utility on the diskette
(CHKDSK on some systems).
Remove the diskette and reinsert
correctly into the drive.
Check the program diskettes or reinstall
software from the original media.
Reconnect the drive cable.
Run your diskette utility to check for
fragmentation (CHKDSK on some
systems).
Format the diskette.
Check the type of drive you are using
and use the correct diskette type.
Check all cable connections between the
drive and controller.
Remove the diskette from the drive.
