Problem
The modem does
not answer an
incoming call.
The modem
disconnects while
online.
The AT command
initialization (init)
string is not working.

Possible Cause
Auto-answer may not be
enabled.
An answering machine is
connected and is answering
before the modem can.
Connections may be loose.
You are experiencing line
interference or poor line
conditions.
The call waiting feature on the
telephone line is enabled, and
an incoming call is breaking
the connection.
The init string may be longer
than necessary.
Possible Solution
Enable this option in the
communications software.
1.
Turn off the answering machine.
-Or-
Reconfigure auto-answer to
respond in fewer rings than the
answering machine.
2.
Restart the server and retry.
Check for loose connections, and then
reconnect.
Retry the connection by dialing the
number several times. If conditions
remain poor, contact your telephone
company to have the line tested.
Disable call waiting and retry.
Utilize the most basic string possible to
perform the task. The default init string
is:
AT&F&C1&D2&K3
