Configuring e-mail for Symposium Web Center Portal

Configuring e-mail attachment directories

Introduction
When agents receive or send e-mails that include file attachments, the attached
files are stored centrally in special Inbound and Outbound directories. While you
can use any directory on the network to store file attachments, the installation
process creates directories for this purpose on the server where Symposium
Email Manager is installed. For more information about your system
requirements, refer to the Nortel Networks Symposium Portfolio Server and
Operating System Requirements Guide (P-2003-0381-Global) (provided on the
Partner Information Center web site).
The ..\SWCPMail folder is created during the installation of Symposium Web
Center Portal. If you want to change the location of the attachment files from the
default location, you can do so. You can also further restrict permissions on the
e-mail folder. For more information, refer to "To create an attachments
directory" on page 257.
If you want to change any of the default settings of the ..\SWCPMail folder, you
must ensure that the agents have access rights to the attachment file directories
to view or process the attached files. You must also allow sharing permissions on
the directories for the agents to provide this access. For more information, refer
to "To configure the attachments directory" on page 257.
After you create and share the attachment directories, you must designate the
directories in the Portal Administrator. For more information, refer to "To
designate the e-mail attachments directories" on page 258.
Handling attached files
Inbound files
If an e-mail message arrives with an attached file, the message portion is inserted
into the Symposium Web Center Portal database. The attached file is stored in
the designated directory (SWCPMail). You can configure the directory in which
the attachments are stored by using the E-Mail Configuration window on the
Settings tab in the Administrator.
