Installing Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise
and Sybase Client
Introduction
Follow the procedures in this section to install and configure Sybase 12.5 on the
Portal server. Before you install the Symposium Web Center Portal components
on the Portal server, you must install and configure the Sybase Adaptive Server
Enterprise and the Sybase Client.
Install Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (Sybase SQL Server database) using
the Sybase installation program included on the Symposium Web Center Portal
Sybase Distribution CD-ROM. This installation process supports only a fresh
installation of Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise with Symposium Web Center
Portal as the only database.
Before you begin the installation of Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise, ensure
you complete all of the items listed on the Sybase checklist (see "Sybase
installation checklist" on page 529).

You can only install the Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (Sybase SQL

Server database) on one computer. For more information about Sybase
12.5, refer to the Sybase documentation.
Wherever you install Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise and Sybase Client,

you must also install Sybase Emergency Bug Fixes (EBFs).
When you configure the database, the Symposium Web Center Portal setup

procedure uses the sa account with no password. Do not change or remove
the sa account. When the Portal Server component is installed, this
password is disabled. The default user name (SWCP_ADMIN) and
password ($nortel$admin) are updated during installation of the database.
Nortel Networks recommends that you change this password after you
