16. Pre-Filter Outlet Pressure Gauge 0-
300 PSI is mounted on the System
Control Panel and monitors the
outlet pressure of the Pre-Filtration
[13 & 14].
This Gauge is used along with the Pre-Filter Inlet
Pressure Gauge [12] to determine the condition of
the Pre-Filtration Elements.
B. PRESSURIZATION SECTION supplies the proper
pressure across the Membrane Element to produce the
required product water within a safe operating
condition. Proper pressure and proper flow across the
Membrane Element are two basic requirements of
Reverse Osmosis.
17. Energy Transfer Device (ETD)
"enhances"
(increases)
pressure from
the Feed Pump
[6] by
approximately a
5:1 or 6:1 ratio.
For every 100
PSI delivered
from
the Feed Pump [6] the ETD [17] enhances the
pressure to 500 to 600 PSI, depending on the
specific System Model number and configuration.
Pressurized water returns from the R.O.
Membrane Element [20]. This pressurized water
entering the Return Chamber of the ETD port
"R" assists the ETD as recovered energy. This
allows the ETD to deliver the required flow and
pressure to the R.O. Membrane Element [20] with
minimal power consumption.
18. High Pressure Gauge 0-300 PSI is a
stainless steel glycerin filled pressure
gauge that is used to monitor the high
pressure of the Feed Water developed
by the ETD [17].
19. High Pressure Hose,
Energy Transfer Device
Outlet port "P" / MVA
Inlet, transfers pressurized Feed Water from the
ETD [17] to the inlet of the R. O. Membrane
Element [20].

The Membrane Element allows potable water
molecules to pass through while rejecting the salt
ions. Only 9 – 12% of the Feed Water becomes
Product Water. The remainder (concentrated
brine) transfers energy back into the EDT then
becomes Brine Discharge which carries the
rejected salt ions out of the Membrane Element.
21. High Pressure Hose,
MVA Outlet/ Energy
Transfer Device Return
port "R", transfers pressurized Brine Water from
"P"
the Membrane Vessel Assembly [20] back to the
"E"
ETD [17].
C. BRINE DISCHARGE SECTION transfers the Brine
Discharge exiting the ETD back to the Feed Water
source.
22. Brine Discharge Tee Connector
allows for the Brine Discharge Hose
to connect to the Thru Hull Over
Board Discharge Fitting [23].
23. Thru Hull Discharge Fitting ** should be installed
above water level for discharge of the Brine
Discharge Water from the System.
D. PRODUCT WATER & POST-FILTRATION SECTION
collects the product water as it exits the Reverse
Osmosis Membrane Element [20]. The product water
psi

is tested for quality at the salinity probe [25], enters a
3-Way Product Water Diversion Valve [26], then

measured for flow [27]. When the Product Water
psi
Salinity decreases to the "safe" level it is then diverted
into the Post Filtration components [28, 29, & 30]
which are the final steps in Product Water quality
control.
