Repair #4: Change the O-ring Kit of the ETD
This is the most common repair in ETDs that have been operated for 500 hours, due to the inevitable wear of the seals.
The seal kit is available from Sea Recovery pre-packaged with all the proper o-rings and seals as appropriate for the
ETD.
When you replace a seal of the ETD, it is recommended to change all the seals.
If the ETD seals are worn, the ETD will have loss of pressure problems.
The o-rings do not wear as much as the seals do. However, because of their low cost, it is recommended to replace them
along with the seals.
To replace the seal kit of the ETD, the ETD must be dismantled completely. Use the Assembly Drawing as a reference.
Proceed with the following:
Empty the water from the interior of the ETD.
Disassemble the ETD completely.
Inspect for damaged o-rings or worn seals.
The shaft of the distributor (Item #7) and the surface of the shaft of the central body (Item #6) should be free
of scrapes or deformations that will prematurely wear the seals. These surfaces must be highly polished. If
these surfaces are damaged, it is necessary to mount new shafts.
Verify that the interior surface of both cylinders (Item #4) and both distributor stoppers (Item #5) are
polished, if scratches or deformations are present, they cause loss of pressure and will wear the seals. If this
problem is evident, new seals are needed.
Thoroughly clean all the components of the ETD.
Note the location inside the pump where the seals wear more often, which are #17 and #18. The wear of these elements
become critical after approximately 1000 hours of operation.
