Repair Process for the ETD Pump
Before proceeding to the disassembly and repair of the ETD, it is suitable to have an idea of the problem causing the
ETD malfunction. Diagnose the problem from the information in the tables on pages 11 and 12 above..
Misuse of the ETD causes premature breakdowns. Intensive premature wear will result if the prefiltration is not
maintained properly.
Replacing the worn or damaged items generally solves the problems caused by loss of pressure due to the wear of the
rubbing elements.
General Repair Guide of ETD
Verify the malfunctioning of the ETD and try to locate the breakdown or reason that caused the
malfunctioning from the information provided in pages 11 and 12 above.
If the breakdown is not located, then proceed by dismantling the whole ETD in the following manner.
1. Dismantle all the o-rings and seals of the ETD, inspecting each item for excessive wear, which could cause
the malfunctioning of the ETD.
2. Verify the wear or deterioration of the internal components of the ETD.
3. Clean all the components of the ETD.
4. Install all new o-rings and seals.
5. Resurface and clean the surface of the rubbing valves (Sliding Distribution Panel Item #10) and the
Sliding Control Panel (Item #9) of the ETD. (Repair #1 and #2).
6. Change the components that have excessive wear.
7. Verify that the shaft of the distributor (Item #7) and the shaft of the central body (Item #6) do not have
deep scrape marks present that could accelerate the wear of the seals that they contact.
8. If the examined shafts have deep scrape marks or deformations they must be replaced.
9. Reassemble the ETD.
10. Inspect the ETD to verify it is functioning, observing if the breakdown has been resolved.
Repair #1: Polish the Sliding Distributor Panels of (Item #10)
The Sliding Distributor Panels (Item #10) are pressed against the surface of the distribution plate (Item #2) and are
forced to move axially, rubbing against the above-mentioned surface. This repetitive axial displacement can wear or
scrape the surfaces in contact, especially that of the sliding distributor panel. This wear can cause leakage or bypass
between the low pressure and high pressure chambers within the ETD.
The worn sliding panels can be replaced or resurfaced. Both options provide the same results and solve the problems
associated with the wear of the sliding panels.
Linear grooves of pressure: They are
indicators of the maximum wear of the
distributor-sliding panel.
