DDM-2000 OC-3/OC-12 Quick Maintenance Guide

Purpose and Scope

This is a quick reference fuide to procedures for the maintenance of Lucent Technologies
DDM-2000 OC-3/OC-12 equipment. It is strongly suggested that you complete the required
training courses before attempting to service this product. You will need access to the
required tools and product manuals.
This guide is intended for use by off-site and on-site maintenance personnel. On-site
personnel should read the sections related to remote maintenance.

Product Description

a.
General Description: The DDM-2000 OC-3/OC-12 Multiplexer (Figures 1 and 2) is
a single-shelf SONET digital multiplexer. It is capable of multiplexing up to 84 DS1
signals, 3 DS3 signals, 3 EC-1 signals, 6 OC-1 signals, or a combination of DS1, EC-
1, DS3, and OC-1 signals, into a SONET standard 51.84 Mb/s OC-1, 155.52 Mb/s
OC-3, or 622.08 Mb/s OC-12 signal. It can be connected in network configurations
such as point-to-point, linear drop, hubbing, add/drop, and self-healing ring.

Panel Layout: The DDM-2000 OC-3/OC-12 Multiplexer (Figure 3) can be configured
to the a specific application by utilizing the appropriate circuit packs, such as DS1,
DS3, STS1E, TMUX, HDSL, T1EXT, or IMA LAN. The USER PANEL and SYSCTL
circuit pack are on the right side of the panel. On the left are Timing generator and
OLIU (Optical line interface unit) circuit packs.

Software Releases: Several versions of operating software have been released and
exist in the field. These are described in the product documentation. It is extremely
important to know the version of software running on the machine being serviced.
