LOA CARD
3.2.1.3 SDH PDH mapping part system (not operative in current release)
This section describes the portion of the system dealing with the management of PDH signals mapping
into SDH frames.
Both PDH into HO SDH and PDH into LO SDH mappings are supported, as depicted in Figure 30. on page
63.
PDH over HO SDH tributaries mapping is managed via HOI (Higher Order Interface) cards, which directly
interface the UNIVERSAL MATRIX providing the functionalities of the standard HPC connection function.
The mapping of PDH over LO SDH tributaries mapping is managed in LOI (Lower Order Interface) cards,
instead.
LOI card manage the mapping of the PDH signals into Lower Order tributaries, managing a Virtual
container with a meaningless path overhead: LO path termination, therefore, is not managed in LOI cards.
The LO VC, carrying PDH clients, are mapped into a structured HO tributary (again, the HO VCs are
created with a meaningless path OH).
It is therefore necessary to interface the LOI cards to the UNIVERSAL MATRIX in order to manage the
HO tributaries aggregation towards the LOA cards for SDH/Sonet LO tributaries processing.
This first passage into the LOA card is necessary not only for interfacing the LO SDH/Sonet matrix device,
in order to provide LO cross connection, but also in order to provide the real LO path termination
functionality: the meaningless HO tributaries are terminated and the LO containers are recovered, then
the LO path OH is managed as foreseen by SDH standards.
The LO tributaries are then processed in the same way as described in section 3.2.1.2 on page 61, with
a second cross of the LOA card.
It has to be noted that with this particular architecture, the LOA resources physically implemented are
doubled with respect to the total LO traffic, coming from LOI cards, that has to be processed in the
equipment. HOI cards and LOI cards are described in section 3.4.4 on page 85.
