4.2.3 Hmatrix
The main function of the unit is the management of the Higher Order cross connection interfacing 128 bi-
directional high-frequency links.
All 32 Port slots are connected to Hmatrix by means of 4 bi-directional links NGI3 at 3.1Gbit/s
Hmatrix links can be connected to SDH/Data ports for cross-connection of Higher Order Virtual Containers
(structured or not structured) or data packets.
Hmatrix links can be connected to LOA boards when cross-connections of Lower Order Virtual Containers
have to be performed
It performs fully non-blocking AU-3/AU-4 switch. The switching element combines both TDM and packet
switching capabilities; used as TDM matrix the whole capacity of 320Gbit/s should be full equipped, with
data packed the capacity is reduced at 160Gbit/s due to port size limitation.
The unit supports the following functionalities:
–
Cross-connection with STS-1 granularity of up to 2048 STM-1 signals (6144 signals at AU3 level),
non blocking
–
1+1 EPS protection scheme, when two "MATRIX" Units are present.
–
alarm reporting
–
performance monitoring
–
accomplishes the central scheduler function (refer to paragraph 3.4.5.2.2 on page 97 for details) and
the protection switch manager in order to root the payload stream in Matrix.
