4.2 UNIVERSAL MATRIX "MT320"

The unit "UNIVERSAL MATRIX" unit provides SDH as well as agnostic data flows switching capabilities.
The unit performs the following functionalities
– Management of 128 bi-directional links @3.1Gb/s (for an overall capacity of 320Gb/s) in Hmatrix
– Management of 24 bi-directional links @2.5Gbit/s (for lower order cross connection) in Lmatrix
– FEC protection of the links through the back panel
– Payload Performance Monitoring (PM)
– Traffic Sub Network Connection Protection (SNCP)
– Automatic protection Switch (MS-SPRING, Kbytes)
– Central Scheduler for data switch management
– Synchronous clock management
Five groups of functionalities are present:
– Shelf Controller (SC): it is the configuration manager of all functionalities located on all boards of
the system.
– Clock Reference Unit: it is the circuit that provides the reference clock used in all SDH units and
for backpanel interfaces.
– HO matrix: it accomplishes MSPC (Multiplex Section Protection Connection) and HPC (Higher
Order Path Connection) switching functions. It supports SNCP protection and it takes part in
protection of LOA units.
– LO matrix: implement LPC (Lower Order Path Connection) switch function and it takes part in
protection of LOA units.
