NOTE
Introduction to SCPI

Command Abbreviation

Command Abbreviation
Each command mnemonic has a long form and a short form. The short
forms of the mnemonics allow you to send abbreviated commands. Only
the exact short form or the exact long form is accepted.
The short form mnemonics are created according to the following rules:
• If the long form mnemonic has four characters or less, the short form
is the same as the long form. For example, DATA remains DATA.
• If the long form mnemonic has more than four characters and the
fourth character is a consonant, the short form consists of the first
four characters of the long form. For example, CALCULATE becomes
CALC.
• If the long form mnemonic has more than four characters and the
fourth character is a vowel, the short form consists of the first three
characters of the long form. For example, LIMIT becomes LIM.
The short form of a particular mnemonic is indicated by the use of
UPPER-CASE characters in this manual.
SCPI is not case sensitive so any mix of upper and lower-case lettering
can be used when sending commands to the analyzer.
If the rules listed in this section are applied to the last program message
in the preceding section, the statement:
OUTPUT 716;"CALCULATE:MARKER:STATE ON;MODE
RELATIVE;MAXIMUM;FUNCTION:TRACKING ON"
becomes:
OUTPUT 716;"CALC:MARK:STAT ON;MODE REL;MAX;FUNC:TRAC ON"
9-8
