How Automatic Switching Works
The paper loading procedures in this chapter are intended to be self-contained.
Stated another way, you can perform any of the five continuous-forms loading
procedures (Front Push, Rear Push, Rear Pull, Push-Pull, and Dual Push) or the
cut-sheet procedure (Manual Sheet Feed), and find a complete step-by-step method
of preparing the printer for a particular paper-feeding method.
Specifications for continuous forms and cut-sheet forms are described in
Appendix A, "Printer Specifications", and are not contained in these procedures.
For information on installing and loading paper in the ASF feature, see the IBM
4247 Printer Automatic Sheet Feeder Guide.
There is an illustration at the beginning of each paper path description that shows
how continuous forms move through the printer. Each illustration also shows
whether cut-sheet forms may be inserted while that particular continuous forms
method is in use. Cut-sheet insertion is not automatic. Follow the manual sheet
feed procedure each time you need to insert a cut-sheet form.
The printer will not operate with the top cover open. Because of this safety feature,
some of the paper loading procedures require the top cover to be opened more
than once.
Use the following table to find paper loading procedures for the forms path for
which your printer is set up.
