Implementing Printer Management
MIB
An MIB contains information a device makes available through SNMP. The
MIB is a management information base that describes information about
actual objects to be managed and controlled.
Standards Of Network Printer MIBs
The Printer MIB is based on the following standards:
•
System and Interfaces Group MIB (RFC 1213 of March 1991)
•
Host Resource MIB (RFC 1514 of September 1993)
•
Printer MIB (RFC 1759 of March 1995)
•
Ethernet contains the Standard Printer MIB per RFC 1759, available from
www.ietf.org.
Components Of The Printer MIB
The printer MIB gives the network manager access to most of the information
that is normally accessible through the ethernet command set for configuring
the server with SNMP. Some objects identified by this MIB are not applicable
to the ethernet.
The printer MIB is composed of the following sections:
•
General
•
Cover
•
Localization
•
Input
•
Output
•
Marker
•
Media Path
•
Channel
•
Interpreter
•
Console
•
Alert
Information Provided By The MIB
The printer MIB contains the following types of information about network
printers:
Descriptions. Printer configuration, location, and contact.
Status. Current operating status of printers.
Alerts. Reportable events from printers.
