A scheme for encoding data as bar code. Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, and
Codabar are examples of different symbologies.
text
Human-readable alphanumeric characters, as opposed to bar codes, which are
machine readable.
thermal transfer
A method of printing by which heat from the printhead melts ink from the
ribbon onto media. The ink adheres to the media as it cools.
top-of-form
The point at which printing can start on a label. Separated from the edge of the
label by the margin.
UPC
Universal Product Code. Bar code used widely in the United States.
user-defined characters (UDC)
See graphic.
user-defined fonts (UDF)
See soft font.
variable data field
Bar code and text fields that change from one label to the next.
XON/XOFF
A protocol that stops the host from sending data when the printer buffer fills up
and starts it again when the buffer empties.
