Section 09 BRAKING SYSTEM
Subsection 01 (FRONT AND REAR BRAKES)

1. Brake fluid reservoir hose
2. Banjo fitting
3. Brake hose
4. Master cylinder bolts
Installation
For installation, reverse the removal procedure.
Refill and bleed rear brake pedal circuit.
WARNING
Bleed rear brake pedal circuit before riding
vehicle.

PRESSURE CONTROL VALVE

Removal
Remove rear fender. Refer to BODY.
Disconnect the three brake hoses. Discard seal-
ing washers and catch spilled fluid with a rag.
Unscrew bolts securing pressure control valve to
frame.

2. From rear master cylinder
3. Toward rear caliper
4. Pressure control valve bolts
Installation
The installation is the reverse of the removal pro-
cedure.

Refill rear brake system.
Bleed rear brake system.
WARNING
Bleed rear brake lever and pedal circuits be-
fore riding vehicle.

BRAKE DISCS

Inspection
Brake discs can be inspected without removing
them from the vehicle.
NOTE: To verify the front brake discs, raise vehicle
and support it securely. Remove wheels.
Visually inspect disc surfaces for scratches or
grooves. Make sure to check both sides of disc.
Measure thickness of the disc.
DISC MINIMUM THICKNESS
Front and rear
Replace disc if not within specifications.
CAUTION: Brake discs should never be ma-
chined.
Turn the brake disc and check warpage.
MAXIMUM DISC WARPAGE
Front
Rear
Removal
Front Brake Disc
Remove caliper. Refer to CALIPER in this section.
Remove front wheel hub. Refer to STEERING
AND FRONT SUSPENSION.
Unscrew brake disc screws. Heat up brake disc
around screws to facilitate removal.
Rear Brake Disc
Remove brake hub. Refer to REAR SUSPENSION
AND AXLE.
Unscrew brake disc screws. Heat up brake disc
around screws to facilitate removal.
Installation
The installation is the reverse of removal proce-
dure. However, pay attention to the following de-
tails.
2 mm (5/64 in)
0.1 mm (1/32 in)
