GENERAL

vmr2006-078-002_a
1. Magneto
2. Voltage regulator/rectifier
The magneto is the source of electrical energy to
charge the battery and keep it at a full state of
charge. The magneto is coupled to the engine and
it transforms magnetic field into electric current
through a stator.
The magneto supplies unregulated AC current (al-
ternative current) to the voltage regulator/rectifier.
Voltage Regulator/Rectifier
A voltage regulator/rectifier receives the AC volt-
age and rectifies (converts) it into DC. The voltage
is also regulated to a predefined voltage (DC).
Battery
The battery supplies with electric current the elec-
tric starter and the entire vehicle. So, only DC cur-
rent is used in the entire electrical system.

PROCEDURES

For best results, use the multimeter Fluke 111
(P/N 529 035 868).
If the battery is regularly discharged, check current
leakage.
VOLTAGE REGULATOR/
RECTIFIER
NOTE: First, ensure battery is in good condition
and fully charged prior to performing tests.
Static Test: Continuity
Due to internal circuitry, there is no static test avail-
able to check continuity.
Dynamic Test: DC Current
Proceed as follows:
Turn off lights and disconnect any accessory from
power outlet.
Remove cooling fan fuse to prevent fan to start.
Start engine.
While engine is running, remove 30 A fuse.
Set multimeter to Adc.
