GENERAL

During assembly/installation, use the torque val-
ues and service products as in the exploded
views.
WARNING
Torque wrench tightening specifications
must strictly be adhered to.
Locking devices (e.g.: locking tabs, elastic
stop nuts, self-locking fasteners, cotter pin,
etc.) must be installed or replaced with new
ones where specified. If the efficiency of
a locking device is impaired, it must be re-
newed.
NOTE: Gearbox and some seals can be serviced
with engine installed in vehicle.

GEARBOX OIL LEVEL

Gearbox oil level cannot be checked.
To ensure the level is adequate, drain gearbox and
refill with the recommended oil and quantity.

GEARBOX OIL CHANGE

Oil change should be done with a warm engine.
WARNING
The gearbox oil can be very hot.
Draining Procedure
Place the vehicle on a level surface.
Remove the drive chain protector.

Clean fill and drain plug areas.
Remove gearbox fill plug.
Place a drain pan under the gearbox drain plug area
then remove plug.

NOTE: To completely drain the gearbox, place a
jack under the left footpeg and tilt the vehicle to-
ward the right side.
Inspection
Oil condition gives information about the teeth
condition inside the gearbox.
BLESHOOTING section.
Clean the drain plug from metal shavings and dirt.
Presence of debris gives an indication of failure
inside the gearbox. Check gearbox to correct the
problem.
Change gasket washer on drain plug if damaged.
Filling Procedure
When the gearbox is empty, install and torque the
drain plug at 9 N•m (80 lbf•in) and replace the
vehicle on the ground.
Refill gearbox as follows.

Refill after

NOTE: Gearbox oil quantity is also written on the
gearbox cover.
CAUTION: Do not use other unrecommended
types of oil when servicing. Do not mix with
other types of oil.
Reinstall and torque oil fill plug to 39 N•m
(29 lbf•ft).
