7 TRANSMISSION SECURITY

This section covers the use of communications security (COMSEC) encryption for
operational use of the system and is only available while in NCW mode. An External
Encryption Device is required to operate in a secure network. The Modem does not
have embedded encryption capability.
7.1
Transmission Security
All network control and user data is TRANSEC covered (encrypted) using the Advanced
Encryption Standard – 256 (AES-256) algorithm. The system uses a common, network-
wide key for the TRANSEC cover. In the case of the user IP data, the Modem applies
TRANSEC cover on top of the encryption provided by the external Type-1 In-line
Network Encryption (INE) device. Note that the TRANSEC encryption covers the
plaintext outer IP headers generated by the INE device. Figure 7-1 Typical System
Setup shows a typical Network Terminal installation.
7.2

TRANSEC and MSK Initialization

a. To access the TRANSEC screen select TRANSEC Tab on the Overall Status
Screen or Configure  TRANSEC. (See Figure 7-2)
