MPM-1000A Operator Manual
NCW without Secure Voice Orderwire (SVOW): This is the most common mode
of operation and places the Modem in the NCW operation mode. See Section 6
for more detailed information on how to enter terminal parameters. If the Modem
is to be used as a Network Controller (NC), see Section 8 for procedures to
configure the Network Parameters. See Section 9 for how to configure Network
Member (NM) Parameters.
NCW with SVOW: In this mode of operation a 16 kbps SVOW data stream from
J3 kb is dedicated one of the two transmit channels in the Modem and one of the
four receive channels.
Maintenance: Maintenance mode is used for configuring the Modem with the
Wizard, updating Modem Software, and troubleshooting and maintenance. See
Section 14 for procedures on entering Maintenance Mode.
Each network mode utilizes specific physical interfaces, FEC techniques and
modulation schemes within the Modem that are described throughout this manual.
When operating in the NCW Mode, the Modem is capable of operating as a Network
Controller (NC) or an Alternate Network Controller (ANC) as well as a Network Member
(NM). With its ability to be customized and configured for different network modes, the
Modem is designed to be a highly flexible Terminal solution when used with a
compatible Satellite system.

After you have received your Modem, remove it from any packing materials and ensure
all items listed above are present and the Modem is undamaged.
1.3

System Requirements

A laptop or desktop PC is required for hosting the Modem HCI program. The PC
requires the following minimum operating software and port:
