Human Computer Interface Familiarization

The Modem HCI is a Microsoft Windows GUI that enables the user to configure the
Modem for operation in a Satellite Terminal system and visually monitor the status of
the system during operation. Visual and audible alarms are presented by the HCI as
well as the capability to archive alarm and status information. The top-level screens
consist of menus, buttons, and status indicators as well as various types of scroll, list
and display boxes. The following screenshots and tables provide an overall description
of the HCI and the functions of each control or indicator.
The main screen is available after the HCI software is loaded and launched. The screen
is organized into three (3) distinct segments that provide information and control
functions dependent on the mode and status of the system.

Overall Status Screen

The Overall Status Screen Segment is the top border for all screens. It provides a
summary status of the Modem and allows quick access to the most commonly used
screens. It also provides access to the Alarm Acknowledge and Emergency Zeroize
controls. (See Figure 4-4)
The AES box in the upper center section of the screen indicates whether the Pass
Phrase and MSK in the TRANSEC tab has been accepted and status of Modem
communication with the network.
The COMM: box in the upper right section of this screen indicates the status of the link
between the Modem and the HCI computer. A normal indication is a green-backlit OK. It
may turn red for a few seconds occasionally during normal operation. When changing
mode to NCW, it may turn red for up to 45 seconds while the Modem loads the NCW.
