Diagnostic Information

The images and calculations provided by the system are intended for use by
competent users, as a diagnostic tool. They are explicitly not to be regarded
as the sole, irrefutable basis for clinical diagnosis. Users are encouraged to
study the literature and reach their own professional conclusions regarding
the clinical utility of the system.
The user should be aware of the product specifications and of the system ac-
curacy and stability limitations. These limitations must be considered before
making any decision based on quantitative values. If in doubt, the nearest
Whale Service Office should be consulted.
Equipment malfunction or incorrect settings can result in measurement er-
rors or failure to detect details in the image. The user must become thor-
oughly familiar with the operation of the unit in order to optimize its
performance and to recognize possible malfunctions. Training is available
through Whale company sales representatives.

Personnel And Equipment Safety

2.10.1

Explosion Hazards

Never operate the equipment in the presence of flammable or explosive liq-
uids, vapors or gases. Malfunctions in the unit, or sparks generated by fan
motors, can electrically ignite these substances. Operator should be aware
of the following points to prevent such explosion hazards.

Be certain to ensure the privacy of patient's information.
CAUTION
The hazards listed below in this section can seriously affect the safety
of personnel and equipment during a diagnostic ultrasound examina-

tion.
If flammable substances are detected in the environment, do not plug
in or turn on the system.
If flammable substances are detected after the system has been turned
on, do not attempt to turn off the unit, or to unplug it.
If flammable substances are detected, evacuate and ventilate the area
before turning off the unit.
