Chapter 2 - Safety
Do not use the probe after a fall or collision until it is verified that it does not
leak electricity.
Do not immerse the entire probe into liquid to wash. The probe is not water-
proof. Immersing the whole probe in liquid will damage the probe.
Do not use the probe if the surface of probe is scratched which may cause
electric shock. Please contact WHALE local representative immediately.
A damaged probe can also increase the risk of electrical shock if conductive
solutions come in contact with internal parts. Inspect probes often for cracks
or openings in the housing and holes in and around the acoustic lens or oth-
er damages that could allow liquid entry.
If the contact surface of the probe is scratched, stop using the probe and
contact Whale sales office or representative.
The use of damaged probes can result in injury or increased risk of infection.
Inspect probes for sharp edges, or rough surface that could cause injury or
cut protective barriers (such as gloves and sleeves).
Do not bend or knot the cables. Cracks or damages of the probe shell and
ruptures or exposures of the cables will influence the probe electrical safety.
Never use steam, heating or liquid disinfectant to disinfect the probe. Those
methods will cause permanent damage to the probe.
Do not connect or disconnect the active probe while real time scanning.
Those operations should be performed when the system is frozen or turned
off.
2.8.1

Electrical Hazards

Probes are operated with electricity, which can injure the patient or user
when exposed to contact with conductive solution.
22
Do not immerse the probe into any liquid beyond the specified level.
WARNING
Never immerse the probe connector or adapters into any liquid.
Do not subject the probe to mechanical shock or impact, which may

result in cracks or chips in the housing and degrade performance.
Inspect the probe before and after use, as described on Probe care and

maintenance.
