MAINTENANCE
Submerged While Running
Special Instructions
If the engine was running when it was
submerged, the chances of internal
damage

As an aid to performing the restoration
work, the following steps are numbered and
should be followed in sequence.

1- Recover the engine as quickly as pos-
sible.
2- Remove the hood and the spark plugs.
3- Remove the carburetor.

4- Flush the outside of the engine with
fresh
water

start
the engine if sand has entered
powerhead.
Such action will only result in
serious damage to powerhead components.
Sand in the powerhead means the unit must
be disassembled.
5- Remove as much water as possible
from the power head. Most of the water can

a horizontal
position with the spark plug
holes DOWN, and then cranking the engine
with the rewind starter
wrench on the flywheel nut.
6- Alcohol will absorb water.

7- Lay the engine in a horizontal posi-
tion, and then roll it over until the spark
plug openings are facing UPWARD.
