Notes on Using Drives

u Selection
Power Supply Capacity
n
The main circuit power supply to be connected to the drive should have a capacity larger than the power required by the
drive with the power factor and efficiency taken into account. When connecting multiple drives to a single supply, select
a power source with a capacity larger than the sum of the power required by all the drives to be connected. Even when the
power source has sufficient capacity, the supply voltage may drop when the power is turned on. This may cause
malfunction of devices connected to the same power supply system if the power supply has a large power impedance.
Drive Capacity
n
When running more than one motor in parallel from a single drive, the capacity of the drive should be larger than [total
motor rated current × 1.1].
Emergency Stop
n
During a drive fault condition, the output shuts off but the motor does not stop immediately. A mechanical brake may be
required when it is necessary to stop the motor faster than the ability of the Fast Stop function of the drive.
u Installation
Ambient Environment
n
Install the drive in a clean environment free from airborne oil mist, corrosive gas, flammable gas, lint and dust. Install the
fan cover at the top of the panel before starting operation. Any modification to the drive panel's cooling fan, such as
connecting air exhaust duct, may reduce air flow for cooling and cause overheating and faults. Do not connect air exhaust
duct.
Operating Environment
n
When power to the drive is reapplied after the drive has been stopped for an extended period, electrical components
inside dry-type transformers and the Power Cell may be subject to condensation depending on the temperature and
humidity of the switch room. Condensation reduces insulation and may cause short circuits. Yaskawa recommends
installing a dehumidifier in the switch room.
Drive Storage
n
When storing an uninstalled drive in a warehouse or storing an installed drive without applying power, observe the
following points to maintain its reliability:
Short-term storage of the drive
Short-term storage includes time periods up to one month after unpacking or up to three months after shipping. Store the
drive in an environment that satisfies the conditions cited for environmental specifications. An ambient temperature of up
to 60 °C is acceptable for short-term storage.
Long-term storage of the drive
Long-term storage includes time periods of more than one month after unpacking or more than three months after
shipping. Contact Yaskawa if long-term storage is required. An ambient temperature of up to 50 °C is acceptable for
long-term storage. Refer to FSDrive-MV1000 Instructions (Manual No. TOEP C710687 02) for details.
Store the spare parts without unpacking them. Refer to FSDrive-MV1000 Instructions (Manual No. TOEP C710687 02)
for details.
Compliance with Local Laws
n
Please comply with the law of the relevant country where the drive panel is installed. For details, contact your Yaskawa
representative.
