Setting the transmission method (Memory
transmission/Real time transmission)
Automatic fax transmission includes the memory transmission and real time
transmission.
• Memory transmission
T his method transmits documents stored in memory. Communication time is
shortened compared to real time transmission, you can efficiently transmit
documents. In memory transmission, you can use the auto redial function (page
3-12) to automatically redial when the other line is busy.
• Real time transmission
T his method does not transmit stored documents. Use this method when you
cannot store a document due to memory shortage, when the receiving machine
cannot automatically receive faxes, or when you want to talk to the other
party before transmitting the document. To use real time transmission, set
the memory transmission setting to OFF.
NOTE
The real time transmission is not available using the document glass. When you use
the document glass, even if real time transmission is set, the machine automatically
switches to memory transmission.
To talk to the other party before transmission, you need to connect the telephone to
this machine.
You can temporarily switch memory transmission and real time transmission by
the following operation.

Press <Fax>.

Press <Menu>.

Select "Memory Tx" using the cursor keys and press [Enter].

Select "On" or "Off " using the cursor keys and press [Enter].
When you set "On", the memory transmission is set; when you set "Off",
the real time transmission is set.
