Hard disk drive
The factory-installed EIDE hard disk drive (HDD) is formatted and loaded with all
RIP Station 5000 software, including operating software, system software, network
drivers, and printer fonts. Because the HDD is used to store spooled print jobs, available
disk space is displayed on the Control Panel.
Instructions for installing system software and for replacing the HDD are provided to
service technicians in separate kits and also are included in this guide.
If you are replacing the HDD, you need:
• The appropriate System Software Kit
• The latest versions of remote utility software (for networked computers that will be
using the RIP Station 5000)
Proper handling
Handle the hard disk drive with care:
• Use proper ESD practices when grounding yourself and the RIP Station 5000.
• Keep magnets and magnetic-sensitive objects away from the HDD.
• Do not remove the six screws on top of the HDD. Loosening these screws voids the
warranty.
• Never drop, jar, or bump the HDD.
• Handle the HDD by its sides and avoid touching the printed circuit board assembly.
• Allow the HDD to reach room temperature before installation.
• Never connect live cables to the HDD.
