Using the SCSI port

To install system software through the SCSI port on the RIP Station 5000, you need an

the SCSI connector on the RIP Station 5000 back panel. To obtain this equipment,

1. If you have not done so already, print the Configuration page from the Functions menu
(if possible) to record the customer's Setup Configuration.
Setup settings are reset to the default configuration when system software is installed.
2. With the RIP Station 5000 powered off, connect a CD-ROM drive to the SCSI interface
connector on the back of the RIP Station 5000.
A SCSI II (50-pin) to SCSI I (50-pin) cable is required to connect a CD-ROM drive to
the RIP Station 5000. Make sure that:
• The connectors are securely connected.
• The CD-ROM drive is properly terminated.
A drive connected at the end of the SCSI bus has to be properly terminated by the
SCSI standard termination.
• The SCSI ID is set to a number other than 0 or 7 if you are using the CD-ROM drive
provided in the Electronics for Imaging, Inc. CD-ROM drive kit.
3. Power on the CD-ROM drive and push the eject button and insert the RIP Station 5000
System Software CD.
4. Make sure the CD-ROM drive is free of activity and then power on the RIP Station 5000.
5. Allow the RIP Station 5000 to perform and complete its startup diagnostics.
6. As soon as you see the message "For software update or setup, press any key" press any
button.
If you do not press a button within three seconds, the RIP Station 5000 continues the
startup process. If this occurs, reboot the RIP Station 5000 and try again.
7. When the RIP Station 5000 displays the Start Up screen, as shown below, press the line
selection button that selects Format Disk.
