General RIP Station 5000 system error conditions

Symptom
No fan sound and
RIP Station 5000 does not
start up.
No fan sound, but
RIP Station 5000 powers
up.
Fans do not blow air out
the back panel of the
RIP Station 5000.
Buttons don't work on the
Control Panel.
Nothing appeared on the
Control Panel when the
RIP Station 5000 was
turned on or the
backlighting on the
Control Panel is discolored.

General RIP Station 5000 system error conditions
When you startup the RIP Station 5000 or when you install system software, you may
encounter error conditions that are not reported during the Start-up diagnostics.
Table 5-2 lists some of these error conditions and suggests corrective action.
When you first encounter any of these error conditions, turn off the RIP Station 5000
and inspect the inside of the chassis for an obviously loose part or cable. Then check
other components as suggested below. For service, refer to "Accessing internal
components" on page 4-3. When you are done, refer to "Restoring functionality after
service" on page 4-11.
Probable cause
Power supply has failed.
Fan wires are not connected.
Fan motor is failing.
Fans are installed backwards.
Connection to the user interface
board is faulty or the user interface
board is bad.
Faulty chip on the motherboard.
Connections to the user interface
board are faulty or the user
interface board is faulty.
Faulty power supply.
Suggested action
• Replace the power supply.
• Check fan connection.
• Replace the fans.
• Remove the fans and make sure to install
them in the proper orientation.
• Check connections to the user interface
board.
• If the problem persists, replace the user
interface board.
• Replace the motherboard.
• Check the user interface cable connection
on the motherboard and on the user
interface board.
• If the problem persists, replace the user
interface board.
• Replace the power supply.
