Removing and replacing circuit boards

O REMOVE THE MOTHERBOARD
1. Print the Configuration page from the Functions menu.
If you are replacing the motherboard, you will need to reinstall system software after the
new motherboard is installed. Setup settings are reset to the default configuration when
you reinstall system software. The Configuration page gives you current Setup
information.
2. Shut down the RIP Station 5000
(see "To shut down the RIP Station 5000" on page 4-2).
3. Open the RIP Station 5000
(see "To open the RIP Station 5000" on page 4-3).
4. For stability during service, remove the front panel
(see "To remove the front panel" on page 4-6).
5. Remove the 6-wire power cable from motherboard connector J16.
6. Remove the two 3-wire fan cables from motherboard connectors J18 and J28.
7. Make sure the UIB cable is not attached to the motherboard.
This cable is removed from the motherboard in order to remove the front panel.
8. Remove the HDD cable from motherboard connector J3.
Using a ribbon cable connector extractor is recommended.
9. If an option board is installed on the motherboard, remove it.
• Remove the mounting bracket screw.
• Remove the board from its motherboard connector and place it on an anti-static mat
or in an anti-static bag.
10. Remove the three screws that attach the motherboard to the center frame.
These screws are located near the connector bracket. Set the screws aside for reassembly.
11. Grasp the connector bracket and gently lift the motherboard away from the three hooks
on the center frame.
The three hooks on the center frame hold the motherboard in place. Place the
motherboard on a static-free mat or in an anti-static bag.
