System Software Kit
5. Click the icon for the printer driver to be used during installation of system software and
choose Properties from the File menu.
6. Click the Details tab and make sure the box "Print to the following port:" reads exactly
as follows: LPT 1: (ECP Printer Port).
If this box reads LPT 1: (Printer Port) and not LPT 1: (ECP Printer Port), the LPT1 port
settings in the BIOS for ECP mode have not been configured. Compatibility mode will
work but the installation will take much longer.
7. Click Spool Settings and select:
• Spool print jobs so program finishes printing faster.
• Start printing after first page is spooled.
This mode takes longer but assures no disruption from a parallel port timeout.
• Disable bi-directional support for this printer.
Disabling Windows 95 support for the bidirectional parallel port helps to make your
installation of system software successful.
8. Click Apply and click OK.
9. Click Port Settings and ensure that the following items are checked:
• Spool MS-DOS print jobs.
• Check port state before printing.
The PC-compatible is now configured. You are now ready to install system software over
LPT1 on to the HDD on the RIP Station 5000.
T
O INSTALL SYSTEM SOFTWARE OVER THE PARALLEL PORT
1. Set up the PC-compatible
(see "To set up a PC-compatible for installing system software" on page 4-42).
2. If you have not done so already, print the configuration page from the RIP Station 5000
Control Panel's Functions menu (if possible) to record the customer's current
configuration.
Setup settings are reset to the default configuration when system software is installed.
3. Connect an IEEE 1284 cable to the LPT1 port on your PC-compatible (generally, a 25-pin
D-type connector) and to the parallel port connector (36-pin mini) on the
RIP Station 5000.
Make sure the RIP Station 5000 and the PC-compatible are powered off before attaching
the cable.
