HDD
1. Unpack the replacement HDD.
Handle the HDD with care. See "Proper handling" on page 4-34.
2. Attach the HDD ribbon connector to the HDD and drape the cable over the top of the
HDD.
Even though they are keyed, the connectors on the HDD ribbon cable are identical.
Make sure to connect the cable such that the red wire (pin 1) is nearest the middle of the
HDD when the cable is draped over the top of the HDD. See Figure 4-20 on page 4-28.
3. Position the HDD carrier on the HDD and secure with four screws.
The bottom side of the HDD connects to the side of the carrier without the slide rails.
See Figure 4-24. Connectors on the HDD are oriented away from the release tab on the
HDD carrier.
4. Slide the HDD carrier along the guide rails on the center frame.
To make it easier to connect the cable, slide the carrier in only part way.
5. Attach the keyed 4-wire power connector to the HDD.
6. Continue sliding the carrier onto the center frame until the release tab on the carrier
clicks into place.
The release tab on the carrier clicks into place when the carrier is all the way in.
7. Attach the HDD ribbon cable to motherboard connector J3.
Make sure to align the connectors and push the cable connector straight in to avoid
bending pins on the motherboard. Straighten any bent pins with a pair of needlenose
pliers.
