ENGINE CONTROL TROUBLE CODE
Ignition coil cylinder 1 - the control wire has a short circuit to ground (terminal 31)
Condition
The ignition is off.
The EFI control unit is disconnected. (
The break out box is connected to the wiring harness.
Ignition coil cylinder 1 is disconnected. (
Ignition coil cylinder 1 - check the control wire for a short circuit to ground (terminal 31).

Measure the resistance between the specified points.
Break out box CO pin 29 – Measuring point Ground (−)
Resistance
» If the specifications have not been met:
–
Check the cable from EFI control unit connector CO (
ground (terminal 31).
» If the specifications have been met:
–
Check the next possible cause:
Ignition coil cylinder 1 - the control wire has a short circuit to sensor ground (
Ignition coil cylinder 1 - the control wire has a short circuit to sensor ground
Condition
The ignition is off.
The EFI control unit is disconnected. (
The break out box is connected to the wiring harness.
Ignition coil cylinder 1 is disconnected. (
Ignition coil cylinder 1 - check the resistance
–
Measure the resistance between the specified points.
Ignition coil pin 1 – Ignition coil pin 2
Ignition coil
Primary winding resistance at: 20 °C
(68 °F)
» If the specifications have not been met:
–
Replace the ignition coil cylinder 1.
