Usage Guidelines
This command sends a VPLS ping packet to another VPLS node. The
to verify data plane connectivity between any two VPLS nodes. This is useful, since not all failures can
be detected using the MPLS or VPLS control plane. The VPLS ping is a modified MPLS ping sent
in-band over a VC-LSP for a specific MAC address. The target MAC address of the VPLS echo request
may represent a VPLS node's MAC address or a customer MAC address. VPLS nodes forward the VPLS
echo request using their local MAC FDB. If the VPLS ping reaches a VPLS egress node, a VPLS echo
reply is sent based on a local FDB lookup. VPLS ping packets are never forwarded out local VPLS
egress interfaces. The TTL value in the VPLS echo request is set to 255.
The VPLS node can be specified using the ipaddress parameter. When the
specified, the IP address is used to look up the corresponding VPLS node's MAC address. If the MAC
address has not been learned, the vplsping command will fail with a "No MAC address learned for IP
address" error. The
mac-address
may represent the MAC address of a VPLS node or a customer MAC address. The
mac-address
parameter must be a unicast MAC address and is specified as a colon separated list of six
