10 Battery Temperature Compensation

10.1 ATevo Battery Temperature Compensation

The battery manufacturer will specify recommended float and
equalize voltages at 25 °C (77 °F). Temperatures above or below the
nominal 25 °C require a slightly lower or higher voltage (respectively)
in order to prolong battery life and ensure reliable operation. The
ATevo Battery Temperature Compensation option automatically
adjusts the charger's dc output voltage based upon the battery
temperature.
The ATevo Battery Temperature Compensation, or 'TempCo', option
consists of a Battery Temperature Probe (A10) and a cable to connect
the probe to ATevo. The TempCo probe contains a temperature-
dependent resistor in an epoxy module that is installed on or near
the battery. This bagged 'kit' can be ordered with the ATevo, or field-
installed later.

10.2 Installing the TempCo Option

In overview, there are four (4) stages. The full detailed procedure is
found in the next few pages:
• Mount probe assembly (A10) on or near battery.
• Run interconnection cable from probe assembly to ATevo.
• Connect charger-end of cable to terminal block (A2-TB8) on
ATevo Power Board.
• Configure ATevo to recognize TempCo option.
The TempCo probe (A10), or 'puck', is the same for all battery types
and all ATevo models, regardless of dc output voltage. Accessory
part numbers differ depending on cable length.
