4. Remove two bolts retaining cap to right hand frame
support bracket.
5. Slide torsion bar toward left side of vehicle and out
of support brackets.
Installation
Before replacement of torsion bar, inspect frame
brackets and cab support brackets for cracks. Do not
weld or braze brackets. If cracked, replace.
New torsion bars should be handled carefully so as to
avoid nicking surface. Never hammer on a new bar dur­
ing installation. If entry into right hand body bracket is
difficult, open clamp with pry bar.
hex of bar with chassis grease and proceed as follows:
1. Insert bar through left hand frame support bracket
and into right hand body bracket.
2. Install caps on right hand frame support bracket and
left hand body bracket; torque bolts to 50-60 ft. lbs.
3. Coat inside of adjusting lever hex with chassis
grease and install lever over end of bar with small
hole in lever as near center of slot in frame bracket

as possible; secure lever with bolt and nut torqued
to 130-180 ft. lbs.
4. Install right hand body bracket clamp bolt and torque
to 65-75 ft. lbs.
5. Lubricate fittings on right hand frame bracket and
left hand body bracket and tilt the cab several times.
. Move adjusting lever to required position following

instructions elsewhere in this section.
7. Recheck torque of right hand body bracket clamp bolt
(65-75 ft. lbs.).
CAB REAR HOLD-DOWN AND SAFETY
LOCK ASSEMBLY
Proper adjustment and lubrication of the hold-down as­
sembly is of prime importance. Periodic inspection of
the condition and operation of the latch should be made
whenever the vehicle is lubricated. Details of hold-down
assembly mechanism may be seen in Figure 93. Note that
the length of the control handle connecting rod must be
adjusted to 22-7/8" from center of hole in clevis to cen­
